Other Ways to Help Your Pet During DERMagic Treatment

Other Ways to Help Your Pet During DERMagic Treatment

When you first take your dog to the veterinarian to diagnose the cause of your dog's sudden baldness, itchy skin, or black skin, your vet will likely come back with a diagnosis of “Alopecia X”. This is a fancy way of saying, “We have no idea.”

What Alopecia X Really Means

Alopecia X is a "catch-all" name given to a skin condition that causes non-inflammatory hair loss. There are also other names assigned to this condition, including:

  • Black Skin Disease (BSD)
  • Yeast Overgrowth
  • Adrenal Sex Hormone Imbalance
  • Wooly Syndrome
  • Coat funk
  • Pseudo-Cushing's
  • Follicular Growth Dysfunction

What Do These Conditions Really Mean?

A diagnosis of Alopecia X essentially means that they know what the symptoms are, but can't really diagnose the cause.

Your veterinarian will likely prescribe corticosteroids, which may provide some short-term relief, but will eventually make the condition worse. We recommend you avoid this course of treatment.

They may prescribe antibiotics, but these can also cause further problems.

Either way, you’re likely to spend a lot of money for a diagnosis that doesn’t help you or your pet. Most vets say it’s “purely cosmetic”.

But, anyone who has had a dog suffering from Alopecia X knows how awful this condition is for both the pet and the owner.

DERMagic is the only effective all-natural treatment designed specifically to resolve yeast conditions which is what contributes to hot spots, and is a direct cause of Alopecia X.

What Else Can I Do To Help My Dog During Treatment?

While it’s not necessary to do any of these things while you’re treating with DERMagic, it may help speed up your pet’s recovery.

1. Change Your Dog's Diet

Changing your pet’s diet to either raw or modified raw is one of the best things you can do for your pets. It can save you thousands in veterinarian bills and help you and your dog live a healthy life.

There are many ways to give your dog nutritionally-complete, raw meals at home. If you don’t want to calculate their daily intake of foods, ensuring that everything you give them is nutritionally complete, there are plenty of options.

For example, The Farmer’s Dog will create your pets perfect food and each dish features lean processing, easy serving (just pour bag into bowl) and it’s delivered within days of cooking. The Honest Kitchen is an excellent dehydrated approach to feeding your pets and easily managed at home.

2. Using Supplements

Some supplements can help improve your dog’s recovery from Alopecia X. Here are a few of our favorites. Before you do any of these things, make sure you check with your veterinarian.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a natural supplement that is thought to improve the growth of fur and help combat the effects of Cushing's disease. It naturally occurs in some meats such as Turkey and can cause sleepiness.

Unfortunately, the dose that your dog might get in a turkey dinner is not enough to help with fur coming back in.

Veterinarians have access to a concentrated form of this supplement (known as Regulin®, Circadin®).  Always consult your veterinarian before starting new supplements.

Probiotics/Prebiotics

Gut health is an important part of overall health. Probiotics and prebiotics can go a long way towards helping your dog recover from skin conditions.

Choose supplements that are natural, responsibly sourced and contain viable micro-organisms to balance the gut out.

Digestive Balancing: Clearing out

NZymes is another all-natural way of improving your pet's gut function. Learn more about NZymes and their innovative approach to a healthy gut.

3. Spaying/Neutering

Generally the reasons to spay or neuter your dog during treatment for Alopecia X or Black Skin Disease is to calm their hormones. Some consider Alopecia X to be a genetic issue however, we have not seen any reliable, peer-reviewed documentation that it is.

Nevertheless, we do agree that it’s a good idea to get your pets fixed as spaying and neutering has been found to help decrease other issues like cancer. In fact, spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats.

Sterilization may also aid in re-growing the coat because the hormonal changes that will take place after the procedure. You will likely see that if no other measures are taken, the coat re-growth is not usually permanent.

4. Methyltestosterone Therapy

Customers often ask us if additional hormone therapy such as methyltestosterone can be implemented.

The answer is complex. Methyltestosterone belongs to a class of drugs known as androgens. It works by affecting many of the body's systems. Methyltestosterone therapy is a tough and dangerous road for your pet.

This type of therapy comes with many issues, including liver toxicity, elevated cholesterol, increased testosterone, and many other dangerous side effects.

Bloodwork must be performed periodically to monitor the level of the hormone and the medication itself can be very expensive.

Methyltestosterone can even induce liver failure and is very likely to cause increased aggression in your dog.

Stay With What Works

We want to avoid all of those awful side effects. Our only goal is to get your pets back on the road to recovery without impacting any other parts of the body.

The best approach to treating yeast overgrowth is a natural approach.

DERMagic works. We guarantee it.
